Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Brent Bankhead was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He then attended the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and was awarded the Dow Research Award for three consecutive years. Following dental school, Dr. Bankhead returned to St. Louis and attended Saint Louis University for his orthodontic specialty training and completed a Masters of Science in Dentistry. While in residency, Dr. Bankhead began working for his father's practice, Bankhead and Firth Orthodontics, later becoming a partner in 1998. In the years since he joined his father in practice, Dr. Bankhead has expanded the practice to six locations, serving the O'Fallon, Wentzville, Warrenton, Chesterfield, Columbia, and Waterloo communities.
Dr. Bankhead is an international lecturer of SureSmile and SureSmile QT, and serves on the SureSmile Advisory Board. Working with SureSmile technology, Dr. Bankhead is also active in developing and implementing the latest in orthodontic technologies. He is recognized for pioneering SureSmile's "hybrid orthodontic system", a treatment system that combines traditional braces, lingual appliances, and clear aligners, especially "ProAlign", a clear aligner treatment system made by Dr. Bankhead, that is coupled with SureSmile technology. In the past, patients would have only one kind of treatment for both arches of the mouth. Now, Dr. Bankhead is pioneering the "hybrid orthodontic system" by doing different treatments on each arch. For example, a person can now have upper lingual braces, and a lower clear aligner or an upper clear aligner and lower labial braces. This hybrid system is both beneficial for treatment and cosmetic purposes. Additionally, Dr. Bankhead serves as a mentor for numerous SureSmile and SureSmile QT doctors, performs on-site training for other practices, hosts in-office courses for fellows doctors and staff, and has hosted the monthly SureSmile QT Study Club webinars since 2012.
Dr. Bankhead is also an Elite Provider of Invisalign. His significant level of experience and expertise with the Invisalign system has allowed his practice to achieve the Elite Provider Status, which is recognized as the top 1% of Invisalign providers worldwide.
In addition to speaking internationally for SureSmile, Dr. Bankhead also frequently speaks to the local community by regularly hosting on-site 'Lunch and Learns' at local dentist offices'. Some of his past topics include "Phase Treatment", "Lingual (Hidden) Braces", "SureSmile Technology & Orthodontic Treatment", and "The New Age of Invisalign".
Dr. Bankhead and his wife, Laurice, have three boys, Christian, Spencer and Samuel. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, participating in church activities, and being a leader with the Boy Scouts of America. Dr. Bankhead and his family enjoy many activities together including skiing, horseback riding, yoga, running and biking.
